Offensive Analysis

Basically ... Louisiana Tech likes to throw the ball, but it can run as well and will do it often with Ryan Moats operating behind a huge, veteran offensive line. The key is to replace QB Luke McCown with four quarterbacks battling for the job. The receiving corps needs to replace its top three receivers, but it should be fine with several good options.

Star of the offense: Junior RB Ryan Moats
Player that has to step up and become a star: Any of the four quarterbacks
Unsung star on the rise: Sophomore WR Johnathan Holland
Best pro prospect: Junior OG Aaron Lips
Top three all-star candidates: 1) Moats, 2) Lips, 3) OT Adrian Gonzalez
Strength of the offense: Offensive line
Weakness of the offense: Quarterback

Quarterbacks
Projected Starter
- Matt Kubik, Jr. - Kubik has the starting job coming out of spring ball, but that could quickly change. He has the most experience of the four quarterbacks with a little bit of time against Tulsa in 2001 not throwing a pass. He has a good arm and has been a decent passer in practice to go along with his solid mobility.

Top Backups
- Donald Allen, Jr. - The former walk-on has been the scout team quarterback over the last two years. He has a gun for an arm and can move a bit when pressured.
- Zac Champion, RFr. - Champion is the youngest player in the mix, but he has the most potential getting to learn the offense last year and looking strong when getting his chance in practices. He's still about a year away from being the starter.
- Brent Rawls, Jr. - The former Oklahoma Sooner missed this spring getting healthy. He has the tools and skills to quickly be a factor in the four-horse race come fall.

The Skinny: There isn't a collegiate pass thrown among the four quarterbacks in the mix in the battle to replace long-time starter Luke McCown. Matt Kubik has a light hold on the starting job, but a strong performance from any of the other candidates late this summer could change all of that.
Player to keep an eye on: Brent Rawls ... Offensive Line Rating: 4.5

Running Backs
Projected Starter
- Ryan Moats, Jr. - Moats turned into one of the WAC's biggest surprises last year rushing for 1,300 yards and ten touchdowns while catching 27 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown. He's a quick back who more than proved he could handle the workload and should be in for an even bigger season with a huge, experienced line in front of him.

Top Backups
- Danny Wilson, Sr. - Wilson made the transition from receiver to running back rushing for 134 yards in a limited role. He'll be a good speed back behind Ryan Moats, but he has to prove he can be a full-time running back if thrown into the starting role.
- Josh Odums, Jr. - Providing more power than Ryan Moats and Danny Wilson, Odums also has good speed for a number three back.

The Skinny: Louisiana Tech is known for its passing attack, but it has boasted two of the WAC's best runners over the last two seasons in Ryan Moats and Joe Smith. Moats is an effective back in the system and if he can stay healthy will approach the 1,500 yard mark. Danny Wilson and Josh Odums need to be effective when they get their chance in relief.
Player to keep an eye on: Danny Wilson ... Running Back Rating: 7.5
